This month we have our first field trip of the year. We will be going to Mt. Vernon on the 21st. This will align with our social studies unit on famous Americans. We have been learning about George Washington, so it will neat for the students to see his home.
Please keep reading every night with your child. The third round of math bags have also gone home. Games are not due back until the 23rd. It is extremely important that they are returned with all the materials to make it easier when swapping games.
Lastly, picture day is on the 24th! Thank you again for all the support at home. Please continue to check Class Dojo for class pictures and daily updates :).
This is a very busy month! First, thank you for coming out to our school science fair earlier this week. I hope you enjoyed seeing our gummy bear experiment! This coming week, we will have our 101st day on the 13th. If you would like, please have your child wear black and white to go along with our Dalmatian theme. We will be doing math and reading activities that revolve around 101! On Tues, the 14th, we will make Valentine's Day bags. The students will then exchange cards with one another.
Thank you to all of you for also contributing to our Penny for Patients Fundraiser. We have collected a lot of money and know that every amount counts! The end of the drive is on February 24th.
* Please continue to read with your child every night from their RED folders. Math games were also sent this week that can be played throughout the week! Thank you for all your support!

Currently we are talking about making connections in reading (text-to self, text-text, and text to world). Connections help us understand what we are reading. As your child reads, see if they can make connections. In math, we are working on Fractions (fourths, thirds, and halves). Needs and wants are being covered in Social studies and in science we are back talking about seasons. We are currently focusing on WINTER, which is great as winter is almost here. :)
Our Winter break will begin Dec 23-Jan 2nd!
Thank you for all that you do!
Thank you to parents who attended conferences last week. It was great to talk about how we can work together to make it a strong year for your child. We have our first full week of November, but next week Thanksgiving break starts- 11/23. School reopens the 28th!
We are still collecting toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, coffee cans, water bottles, etc for our sound project! We are learning how vibrations cause sound! In math, we are covering repeating patterns. The part that keeps repeating is called the core/unit. Ask your child to make a pattern of their choice. During social studies, we are covering American symbols. I hope you all enjoyed the mini American Flags I sent home. Currently, we are covering the Bald Eagle! Reading has been a great time making text-to-self connections. As you read at home, see what parts of the story your child can connect to based on personal experiences.
Thank you for all that you do at home! :)
This week we continued to work on story elements in reading (problem, solution, characters, and setting). In math, we worked on adding numbers and solving story problems using the UPSC method (Understand, Plan, Solve and Check). In science we are continuing our unit on motion. Please ask your child about the great launchers we made to enforce how force is a push or a pull!
THANK YOU to all the parents who had their child bring in some thing to share in social studies! We loved learning about the different cultures. We learned facts about El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduras, Guatemala, and more! It is a great unit to show our students how much we can learn from each other by being so diverse.
The week of 10/24-10/28 is SPIRIT WEEK!

Wed- Wacky Wed
Thurs-Dress up as a Pokemon
